Team Marsh Defends Championship in Thrilling 8-hole Playoff

Doug and Jeff Marsh from Auburn, Indiana successfully defended their championship in the 21st Annual TaylorMade Father and Son Invitational.  It wasn’t easy!

After posting identical 54-hole gross scores of 209 (5 under par), the Marsh’s joined Tony and Ken Earle (San Diego, CA) in what proved to be the longest and most thrilling playoff in tournament history.  With most of the tournament participants following this foursome the entire 8 holes, it was an exhibition of great golf and superb sportsmanship from start to finish.  The Marshes and Earles' wonderful, shared history dates back to 20 years in this event.  A more fitting conclusion to a fabulous week could not have been drawn up better.

The Chateau Richelieu, and the Richelieu Golf Club proved to be delightful hosts for the event.  The first two days were somewhat marred with periods of rain, wind, fog (and occasional lightning storm), but the final day was blessed with beautiful weather which showcased the beauty of this magnificent area.  With the playoff ending with Jeff Marsh tapping in a birdie after a magnificent 260 yard 3-wood to the back of the par 5 eighth hole, the skies were a sparkling blue and the St. Lawrence River was as smooth as glass.  The only thing missing was a rainbow, but we saw enough of those over the first two days.

The Low Net Championship didn’t exactly come down to the last hole, but it was a true family victory for the Pennsylvania duo of Charlie and Chuck Hurchalla.  Flanked by their wives and children, the Hurchallas were handed their trophy by our honorary award presenter – 7 year old grandson, Zach Hurchalla.  The next generation of Hurchalla Father and Son participants is already getting ready!
